What is the Block in Autocad

Blocks are another useful tool in Autocad. Blocks are a group of primitives that combined and working as a single object. Combining object into blocks makes easy to use them and reuse them inside drawing and outside of drawing.

Blocks are not Group. In AutoCAD has also groups but they work very differently.

Tool paletted in Autocad

Blocks are big theme and here we will not get in deep into this theme. But to understand what is the blocks I will show you default blocks that built in Autocad.

To see built-in blocks we need open Tools Palettes. Enter toolpalettes into command panel.

You will see this windows, where you can find all Autocad blocks. If you will give attention to the right side of the window you can see tabs from where you can switch between categories.

You can just click on any block and based on what blocks contains you will be asked to do to some steps. Maybe you will be asked to enter scale or if block are dynamic you will asked enter other parameters.

There are two types of blocks.

Static blocks – contains groups of primitives that always static.

Dynamic blocks – Contains groups of primitives that can be dynamically changed.

One of the coolest thing in Blocks is – if you will create a block and use that block in many places of your project, then you don’t need open and edit all of them one by one when you need it. If block just copied then, when you will edit one of them changes will touch all same named blocks.
